The RecycleBank’s  “Philadelphia Recycling Rewards/UnLitter Us” kick-off event

scheduled for Saturday will take place rain or shine. The location is the Acme parking lot (Germantown & Sedgwick), from noon till 2. We can help maintain clean, safe and attractive blocks and earn rewards points while doing it! If you haven’t already registered for your recycling container barcode sticker, you can do that at the event. There’ll be refreshments and giveaways, so try to stop by.

Visible use of federal economic recovery money has come to Mt. Airy! SEPTA is re-painting many regional rail bridges, and doing more work at the Mt. Airy Station on the R-7 line. None of this work will affect train service.

Sidewalk and curb work in the Germantown Avenue shopping/restaurant area will be starting soon.  Temporary inconveniences will be part of this MAUSA-supported project, but the streetscape will be much nicer when the work is finished. Please try to give extra support to our local businesses during this redevelopment project — they’re important to the health of the community!

Have you visited the Mt. Airy Farmers Market yet? Beautiful, local food and flowers, and friendly farmers willing to answer all your questions. The William Allen Plaza at Lutheran Seminary is a really lovely setting for this market, (every Tuesday from 3 till 7), and it’s a nice place to relax for a few minutes. Various grilled meats will be available this week, which will be a nice addition. (Rumor has it that water ice will soon be available!) You can park on the street or on the Valley Green Bank parking lot. (Continuing thanks to Valley Green Bank & to Lutheran Seminary for sponsoring the market!)

As the heat waves march along, please check on elderly neighbors and others who may be suffering and unable to seek help on their own. And be aware that the hot weather often brings an uptick in property crimes — lock your doors (including car doors), set your alarm if you have one, and pay attention to your surroundings. If you see suspicious activity on your street, call 911.

EMAN’s Summer office hours are not as regular as during the rest of the year. But we do check e-mail regularly, so if you want to contact us:info@eastmountairy.org
