Everything and everyone in Mt. Airy has been affected by the 2 snowstorms that buried us. It certainly hasn’t been easy, but it’s been heartening to see so many neighbors helping neighbors………
Many of us have been experiencing cabin fever, and are impatient for Winter to be over, but East Mt. Airy is not without activities in the meantime.
Because of a storm-related issue, the electronic invitations to EMAN’s “Saturday Night Fever in East Mt. Airy” Fundraiser didn’t go out as early as planned…………the RSVP date is this week!
The party is on Saturday night, February 27th, from 7:30 till 11. The amazing Urban Guerilla Orchestra will be back, churning out Motown & the Sounds of Philly. Hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and an open bar……lots of dancing, lots of fun. We hope you’ll join us!
While we’re trying to straighten things out in cyberspace, if you haven’t received an invitation, please go to our website, www.eastmountairy.org, where you can RSVP and get tickets online using PayPal. Tickets are $75. Or call the office (215-242-4170) or e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org let us know if you’re planning to come, so we can save a place for you!
On a happy, non-weather-related subject, both public elementary schools in East Mt. Airy — A.B. Day and Emlen — have been designated “Vanguard Schools” by the School District, in recognition of their high achievement. There were only 20 elementary schools in the city to receive this designation, so congratulations to principals Karen Dean and Richard Raisman, and to the teachers, students, parents and guardians!
On Monday, February 22nd at 10 am, the Lutheran Theological Seminary of Philadelphia will be hosting Congressman Chaka Fattah(Chair of the U.S. House of Representatives Urban Caucus), who will be addressing the economic downturn, the federal recovery program, and how our community is affected. LTSP is located at 7301 Germantown Avenue. The program will be held in the Brossman Building, and is free and open to the public.
The monthly 14th Police District PSA community meetings are coming up. Parts of East Mount Airy are in 3 different PSAs; you’re welcome to attend any of the meetings. If you don’t know which PSA you’re in, that information is available at www.14thppd.org
PSA1: Feb. 18th, 7 pm, at the H&H community center (Limekiln & Haines)
PSA2: Feb. 18th, 7 pm, at New Bethel AME Church (Germantown & Tulpehocken)
PSA4: Feb. 23rd, 7 pm, Hagan Amphitheater, Lutheran Seminary (7301 Germantown)
If you’d like to get that Spring feeling, please consider joining the Mt. Airy Day 2010 Committee……you can work with friends and neighbors to produce the festival in its 40th year. Such a big event needs lots of people to make it successful. There are big jobs and little jobs, and something to suit almost everyone’s interests. E-mail email@example.com for more information.
We are working on consolidating our e-mail lists. If you receive more than one copy of this, or other messages, our apologies.
Here’s hoping that we’ll see a few sunny days in a row!
