Spotlight: Mt. Airy Baseball

Over the past four years the East Mount Airy Neighbors Community Fund has given out over $348,000 in grants via the Philadelphia Foundation.  This year we are celebrating nine incredible organizations and giving out over $90,000.

Mt. Airy Baseball is a volunteer group within this community which offers youth baseball games, practice, instructional clinics and baseball tournaments for ages 5 to 18. The league’s focus on instruction and skill development emphasizes good sportsmanship and the positive role of athletics in a young person’s development.

The organization has been providing play and instruction to Philadelphia boys and girls for more than thirty years.  In that time, the league has grown from twenty players on two teams to more than 660 players in five age divisions, playing on 50 teams in the spring.

In addition, 60 kids play on summer tournament teams, over 200 play Fall Ball and about 120 participate in our winter instructional program. Graduates of the program who have gone on to play high school, college and professional baseball serve as instructors.
