There’s been an increase in burglaries in the past few weeks. The District offers the following helpful reminders: Lock your windows and doors when you leave your property. If you have an alarm system, use it. If you’ll be away for a while, stop newspaper and mail delivery, and let the 14thknow (215-686-3140), so they can do periodic security checks. Tell a trusted neighbor that you’ll be away, and how to reach you in an emergency. Leave a few lights on a timer, so the house looks “lived-in”.
If you think you could do more to protect yourself and your property, but aren’t sure what to do, call the 14th and arrange for Officer Hall (Crime Prevention Officer) to visit your home to conduct a safety check and give you ideas for making your home safer. She’ll come to assess a whole block, if you’re interested. She’s a wonderful resource for Mt. Airy residents!
EMAN joins the larger community in welcoming Anuj Gupta as the new Executive Director of Mt. Airy USA. Anuj has many years experience in Philadelphia government, most recently L&I. He has also worked in real estate and housing, and has served as a Board member of several local organizations. He’s familiar with the community and has demonstrated a real passion for the neighborhood. We look forward to working with him.

Speaking of which………….I would never presume to suggest you vote for a particular candidate. But I am urging you to vote on Tuesday Nov. 2nd. Midterm elections have a great impact on our lives, even though they don’t seem as exciting as presidential elections. As you know, Governor and Senator are major offices. Please check out the candidates’ positions on issues that matter to you, and show up to vote.
