Will Make $2,000 to $50,000 Grants
Applications Now Being Sought; Deadline is Jan. 16, 2015
The East Mount Airy Neighbors (EMAN) Community Fund -- a Donor Advised Fund of The Philadelphia Foundation -- is pleased to announce the availability of grants to strategically support nonprofits located in or around East Mount Airy that are actively providing innovative and sustainable programs to improve the health, welfare and quality of life for Northwest Philadelphia communities.
The four priority areas for the fund are:
Children and Youth
Mental Health/Mental Retardation
The EMAN Community Fund supports organizations located in or serving Northwest Philadelphia, with a priority for the area represented by EMAN (bounded by Stenton Avenue, Washington Lane, Germantown Avenue and Cresheim Valley Drive).
EMAN is a community organization committed to:
Cooperating with local organizations, individuals and businesses located in, or having an interest in, the community of East Mount Airy.
Facilitating whenever problems arise in the area, seeking solutions that will be of greatest mutual benefit.
Promoting projects and public improvements that encourage positive growth and development in the community, and make it a better place in which to live.
Encouraging and supporting legislation that will accomplish the above objectives.
Providing a means of friendly communication, mutual understanding, information and education to bring about the above objectives.
In 2015 -- in the words of its motto -- EMAN will celebrate 50 years of service "Making A Good Community Better." EMAN's work through the EMAN Community Fund will be to further its mission and to support and grow prosperity, health and welfare in East Mount Airy, and in the greater Northwest Philadelphia community.
The following organizations and proposals are NOT eligible under the EMAN Community Fund criteria:
Organizations that have neither 501(c)3 public charity status nor fiscal sponsor
Organizations that do not offer services or programs to the geographic area served by the EMAN Community Fund
Organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, disabilities, etc.
Organizations whose budgets are over $5 million
Requests to support any of the following: debt reduction, loans, fellowships, capital campaigns, proprietary enterprises, political lobbying.
Organizations may apply for General Operating Support or a specific program or project. Ordinarily, grants will not be made for capital expenditures; however, the EMAN Community Fund will consider applications for equipment, furnishings and limited renovations.
Grants may be for one year or multi-year (up to two years) and will range from $2,000 to $50,000. In the case of General Operating Support, the grant may not be greater than 20% of the applicant's operating budget.
Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015.
