Lots of interesting, informative and fun events coming up in the neighborhood

Farmers Market today! Rain or shine, our farmers will be at William Allen Plaza (Lutheran Theological Seminary), across the avenue from Valley Green Bank. Local harvests are still abundant, and we hope you’ll come see the beautiful array of produce, plants, baked goods, grass-fed beef & free-range chickens (& their eggs!). Homemade prepared foods (soups, salads, hummus) are also available, and new this week are scented soy wax candles. The Market is open from 3-7 every Tuesday, at least through the end of October. 

The monthly EMAN Community/Board meeting will take place at 7 this evening, at the EMAN Office (in the Wiedemann Building on the Lutheran Seminary Campus) The community is welcome at all of our meetings — come get involved! 

The Police-Community Forum that was scheduled for last Thursday (9/30) was postponed due to inclement weather. It has been rescheduled for this Thursday October 7th, from 6-8 PM, at the New Bethel AME Church (6153 Germantown Ave.) This is an opportunity for community members to share thoughts and concerns with the Police District; representatives including Commanders, Police Advisory Commission and Internal Affairs division will be present. State Representative John Myers will sponsor a Senior Health Fair this Friday, (10/8), from 11 AM – 3 PM, at the Center in the Park (5818 Germantown Ave.). A variety of health care, pharmaceutical, senior citizen and health-related organizations and businesses will be represented. For more info:  215-849-6896 

On Wednesday, Oct. 13th, at 7 PM, Scott Gordon (founder and CEO of MasteryCharter Schools) will be the first featured speaker in Mt. Airy Learning Tree’s“Fabulous Philadelphians” Fall Speakers Series. The presentation will take place in Hagan Hall, at Lutheran Seminary, and costs $19. There will be a free public meeting on the new health care reform bill at Summit Presbyterian Church (Greene & Westview Sts.) on Sunday, October 17th, from 3-5 PM. Presenters will be Rev. Cheryl Pyrch, Summit’s Pastor and Dr. Walter Tsou, MD, MPH, of Physicians for a National Health Program.  For more info: 215-438-2825
