Ralston My Way is a licensed non-profit home care agency serving anyone 55+ in Northwest Philadelphia, with the mission of helping improve the quality of life for seniors “aging in community.” My Way is a “one-stop-shop”, with caregivers performing a variety of in-home services for members, including home care (assistance with activities of daily living, personal care, respite care), transportation, house cleaning, handyman repairs, yard work, and more.

Services include:

  • Laundry

  • Meal Preparation

  • Companionship

  • Respite care

  • Home Care

    • Bathing

    • Dressing

    • Grooming

    • Light housekeeping

  • Repairs and Maintenance

  • Errands and transportation

  • Chores and yard work


Chestnut Hill Meals on Wheels is still making deliveries. Those who are eligible are:

  • A senior (62 or older) – no matter what their physical health.

  • Any person of any age whose disability makes it difficult to shop for food and prepare meals without assistance.

The organization delivers 2 meals a day, Monday through Friday, one hot and one cold. The cost for both meals is $9.00 per day. Should you require only one meal, the cost is $4.50.

Clients may receive meals on any number of weekdays that best suits their schedules – one to five days each week.


APPRISE COUNSELING SERVICES

APPRISE helps Pennsylvania residents over 60 with all types of health insurance, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private policies. APPRISE counsels low-income Medicare recipients on their options for medical coverage.


TRANSPORTATION

The SEPTA CCT Connect offers door-to-door transportation in Philadelphia with discounts for seniors 65 and older. Seniors pay 15% of the normal fare, which comes out to $4.25 per one-way ride, and share the same vehicle with passengers traveling to and from other destinations. The service requires reservations 1-3 days in advance, and is offered on a space-available basis. It can be used to travel anywhere within the City of Philadelphia and to locations within 3 miles of the City’s limits. A completed application must be sent to CCT to use this service. For more information or an application, contact customer service at (215) 580-7145 - Mon-Fri 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Fares: Seniors 65 years and older pay $4.25 per trip. An escort is allowed for an additional $4.25. To find out where your ride is you can contact (215) 580-7145 - 24 hours a day. To reserve a ride contact (215) 580-7700 - Mon-Fri 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday/Sunday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Make, cancel, or check on reservations 1 to 3 days in advance. Automobile Insurance Discount Pennsylvania mandates a discount on auto insurance for drivers aged 55+ who complete an approved mature driver improvement course.

SEPTA City bus, subway, and trolley rides are free for seniors aged 65+ with a valid ID. SEPTA Regional Rail lines, within Pennsylvania, are $1 for one-way rides during off-peak hours. New Jersey Transit Passengers 65+ can save one-half or more off regular one-way fares at all times. Some discounts are available as well to customers 62+. DRPA The DRPA of PA and NJ offers discounted bridge tolls for crossing DRPA bridges to passengers and drivers aged 65+ with a NJ EZ-Pass account. PATCO Customers aged 65+ are offered a reduced fare of $0.70 between any two PATCO stations during off-peak hours.

Senior Helpers https://www.seniorhelpers.com/ Senior Helpers offers a companion service that provides a helper for any number of daily needs. The companion care service will give assistance in any sort of transportation, for any requested need. Contact (215) 242-2221 for more information.

JFCS Older Adult and Senior Transportation Service http://www.jfcsphilly.org/ JFCS will help coordinate transportation services for Jewish seniors 60 years or older. Staff will refer clients to useful services and help register for them as necessary. Contact (866) 532-7669 to join the program

Wheels For Independence http://www.communitycarenephila.org/ Provides door-to-door transportation for all purposes. Members must be able to walk independently/with assistance of a cane or walker. The service costs $120 a year for unlimited rides. Contact (215) 335-3816 for more information.

LogistiCare: http://www.logisticare.com/ LogistiCare can help manage and provide non-emergency medical transportation in Philadelphia. This service allows its members to coordinate transportation to and from hospitals. Visit the website for more information on this service. The Fresh Grocer http://www.lthefreshgrocer.com The Fresh Grocer offers a van service from the store to a customer’s home for customers that purchased $50 or more in groceries in that visit. The customer must live within the store’s zip code to use the service. To find out more information on this service contact your local Fresh Grocer.

GoGoGrandparent https://gogograndparent.com/ Service area: Anywhere in the Philadelphia area Estimated Cost: Price of ride share service + $0.19 per minute for service monitoring. How it works: This service allows for a customer to call a number, rather than use an app, to order a car service. Additionally, it gives a way for family members to monitor transportation. PCA works to improve the quality of life for older Philadelphians and people with disabilities. The organization is currently operating grab and go meal sites for adults aged 60 and over.
